PADI IE- INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION

Coral Point Diving PADI

The PADI Instructor Examination (IE) is the final step in becoming a certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. Conducted over two intensive days, the IE is a standardized, objective evaluation administered by official PADI Instructor Examiners. Its purpose is to assess whether candidates can independently teach and supervise PADI courses safely, professionally and according to PADI standards. During the examination, candidates are evaluated on their teaching ability in Knowledge Development, Confined Water and Open Water presentations. They must demonstrate clear communication, proper skill demonstration, control of student divers and sound decision‑making. The IE also includes rescue skill evaluations and written exams covering PADI Standards and Dive Theory. The PADI IE is not a competition, but a quality‑control process ensuring that every new instructor meets the same high global standards. Successful completion qualifies candidates to teach PADI courses anywhere in the world and marks the official transition from dive professional to dive instructor

Instructor Tips

Professional Demonstrations

Demonstrate every skill slowly, neutrally buoyant and exactly to PADI standards. Clear, controlled demonstrations are a core evaluation point during the IE.

Student Control

Maintain constant awareness of student positioning, depth, air supply and stress indicators. Effective control is essential for safe teaching and instructor credibility.

Risk Management

Anticipate problems before they occur. Early intervention and calm decision‑making are fundamental instructor skills and heavily emphasized in professional training.

Standards Awareness

Know PADI Standards thoroughly and apply them consistently. Proper standards application is critical during the Instructor Examination and daily teaching activities.

Instructor Presence

Maintain a calm, confident and professional attitude at all times. How you communicate and behave influences student confidence more than words alone.

Ethical Teaching

Teach responsibly, respect the marine environment and prioritize diver safety. Ethical conduct builds long‑term reputation and professional trust worldwide.
